Making arrangements

General advice

  • Let your relatives/friends/neighbours know when your surgery is taking place
  • Nominate a family member or friend to be your carer for when you return home
  • Check your diary and cancel any appointments
  • Inform your place of work
  • If you receive regular support at home from Social Services or any other agency then please them know so they can make any necessary arrangements
  • Organise child care/pet care
  • Arrange transport for getting to hospital and more importantly how you will get home. If you need to book an ambulance you can do this through your GP
  • We encourage you to have a good supply of simple medications at home; such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, senna and lactulose
