Arrowe Park Hospital League of Friends, a group of volunteers led by four members of staff who run the shop at the Wirral Hospital have raised in excess of £150.000 to date in 2016.

The League of Friends was established when Arrowe Park Hospital opened in 1982 and has since gone on to raise almost £3million. Volunteers range from sixth form students through to retirees.

The registered charity is responsible for managing the shop with all profits going back into the hospital to improve the care it provides to the patients of Wirral and beyond.  For this reason the shop opens seven days a week providing a service to patients, staff and visitors.

Thanks to around 60 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, the League of Friends has been able to pay for equipment including heart monitors, nursing systems for premature babies, vital sign monitors and training aids.  The charity has also helped to improve hospital stays for sick children by organising an entertainer for the children’s ward several times a year.

Arrowe Park’s intensive treatment unit, trauma unit, orthopaedics ward, maternity ward and elderly care wards are just some of the other areas to have benefitted from the funding over the past 12 months.

A wide range of Items can be found e.g. confectionary, drinks, sandwiches and snacks ,ice cream, stationery, toiletries, postage stamps, gifts and cards.
