An event aimed to highlight the support available in Wirral for people affected by cancer is taking place at Arrowe Park Hospital on Thursday 19th October.
The cancer health and wellbeing event has been organised by Wirral University Teaching Hospital’s Macmillan Information and Support Service and follows the success of several similar events hosted by the Trust for local people living with and beyond cancer.
As well as featuring short talks from health care professionals it will include a range of stalls promoting the services and support available in Wirral ranging from fitness advice and psychological support to welfare guidance and support for carers. A patient will also share his personal journey of living with cancer.
Organiser of the event, Anne Torkington, from the Macmillan Information Centre at Arrowe Park Hospital explained:
“People often don’t realise how much help is available locally for those affected by cancer so this is a great way of highlighting the support we have in Wirral and helping people to access what they need. Sometimes seeking the right information can feel daunting but by combining information sessions with informal ‘market’ stalls that people can browse at their own pace we hope to make it easier and more comfortable.
“Whether you are living with cancer, currently recovering or caring for someone with the condition, this event will bring together a wealth of useful resources in one place along with access to expert advice from cancer specialist nurses, Macmillan professionals, dietitians and organisations such as the Maggie’s Centre and Inclusion Matters.”
The free event will take place from 12.30pm until 4pm, with talks starting at 1.20pm, on Thursday 19th October in the Education Centre, which is next to the Fracture Clinic, at Arrowe Park Hospital. Free tea and coffee will be available and people are welcome to bring a friend, relative or carer.
If you would like to reserve a place, or for more information, please contact Anne Torkington or Naomi Davidson from the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre at email@example.com or call 0151 552 1860.
