National Play in Hospital Week
'Play and Laughter is the best medicine'
As part of National Play in Hospital Week, Play Specialist Annie Owen and Play Leader Amy Dowdall are raising awareness of the importance of play at Arrowe Park Hospital.
As part of their role they organise play activities at patients' bedside, help children deal with pain and anxiety through distraction techniques and help prepare children and young people for medical treatment or procedures.
Annie said, "We are passionate about supporting poorly children and young people in our care and it is fantastic to be able to spread the word about the role of the play team to staff, patients and visitors.
"Play in hospital is essential in supporting children and young peoples mental health and wellbeing and provides an aspect of normalisation in which can be a unfamiliar scary environment.
“Today our patients met Upsy Daisy, Peppa Pig and Woody! A huge Thank you to 'Happy timez mascots' for their generous loan of characters which brought a smile to all our patients, staff and visitors around the hospital.”
Pictured are some of our patients who really enjoyed the colourful characters.
