Update about COVID-19

Update from Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive at Wirral University Teaching Hospital on Sunday, 15th February

The second group of guests repatriated from Wuhan in China have now departed from Arrowe Park. A huge thank you again to all staff for your fantastic support over the past two weeks while we have looked after those guests.

I am delighted that none of our guests have shown any symptoms and the departures all went to plan.

A big thank you again to staff who volunteered to support guests at the accommodation site. This was done so under strict guidance from Public Health England.

While we have accommodated the guests our busy hospital has continued to run as normal and that is a testament to the dedication of our staff.

Now that we have said goodbye to all the guests we will move on to the recovery stage and the focus is on returning to our usual way of working. If you have any questions at all, please contact the Executive Team.

Kind regards,

Janelle Holmes,

Chief Executive

Update from Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive at Wirral University Teaching Hospital on Thursday, 13th February

You will have seen increased media interest on site at Arrowe Park as our first group of guests repatriated from Wuhan in China left us today.

Thank you for all your hard work in supporting them and I am happy to say none of our guests have shown any symptoms of the virus and all have been given a clean bill of health.

We have tried our very best to keep disruption to a minimum and I am so proud of the care and compassion our staff have shown during this time. I do understand that traffic and parking has caused some issues for staff and I apologise for that but I am hoping that this situation will return to normal very soon.

The focus now is to ensure the comfort of our remaining guests and we expect they will also depart at the weekend.

In appreciation of all the effort our staff and partners have put in, guests at the accommodation have left a lovely message to express their deepest gratitude to staff for their warm welcome.

Once again, a huge thank you to all colleagues who have worked extremely hard over the past two weeks in supporting guests under strict clinical guidance from Public Health England and to everyone for all your efforts in keeping the hospital running as usual.

Our partners across Wirral have really worked together to look after the guests and that support will continue after their departure.

Kind regards,

Janelle Holmes,

Chief Executive
