What happens next?

What happens next?

Your first appointment with your Midwife will be at around 8 weeks and your scan will take place at about 12 weeks. This is so we can see how your baby is progressing and to accurately date your pregnancy.

We’ll discuss with you how and where you may want to give birth. We offer four different choices of birth place, please see our 'Choice of Birth' leaflet to the left of this page.

We will give you the support of your own personal Midwife who will be your main contact from the very first time you book in with us, up until 28 days after you give birth. We will be with you every step of the way to ensure that you are fully supported and that your needs are met.

Midwifery led Unit

Our Midwifery Led Unit (MLU) has four home-from-home rooms and two poolrooms for water births. This area is totally staffed by midwives. In total, there will be seven rooms where women can deliver their babies and remain in the same room until their discharge home.

There are two designated Maternity Theatres directly linked to the Delivery Suite and MLU which are staffed 24-hours per day for elective and emergency surgery.

The ante and postnatal wards have 26 individual rooms, with ensuite bathrooms and sleeping facilities for partners to stay overnight. There is a six bedded post operative care bay where higher dependency care can be delivered around the clock.

The postnatal ward also has four “transitional care” rooms that are used when babies require additional support that can be provided outside the Neonatal Unit.
