Outpatient Hysteroscopy and Post Menopausal Bleeding Clinic

We offer an Outpatient Hysteroscopy Service for women with heavy or irregular periods and other problems concerning the womb lining or cavity such as bleeding after the menopause.
Services Available:
- diagnosis and management of women with heavy or irregular periods or bleeding after the menopause
- insertion of Mirena Coil for treatment of heavy periods
- Outpatient Endometrial ablation under local anaesthetic for heavy periods
- Removal of vulval lumps or skin tags under local anaesthetic
- Vulval biopsies
Routine Investigations:
Most women will have had a pelvic ultrasound scan if needed prior to there appointment, but this can be performed as part of the post menopausal bleeding clinic.
The standard investigation performed in clinic is an out-patient hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopy involves inserting a thin telescope into the womb through the vagina. This can be done without an anaesthetic as an especially thin telescope is used, which causes minimal discomfort and is usually well-tolerated.
Appointments:
Patients are referred to the outpatient hysteroscopy clinic either from other clinics in Women’s Outpatients, or from the Acute Gynaecology unit or from GP’s as part of the 2-week cancer referral pathway for post-menopausal bleeding.
Opening Times:
Monday, Tuesday Wednesday pm clinics
