My name is Andy Liston. I was elected Governor for Leasowe, Moreton and Saughall constituency for Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a three year term of office starting on 7th October 2024.
For the last 41 years, starting as an engineering apprentice, I have worked in industry, first the nuclear industry and for the last 35 years, the aeronautical industry. In each of these roles I have used cutting edge technology to produce a benchmark product.
Working for Airbus UK, I am responsible for, and teach, site safety while also leading the ‘Best for Business’ UK Armed Forces & Veterans group, ensuring Airbus works to the highest possible standards of the Armed Forces Covenant.
In addition to this I am a UK and Global Airbus Lead for Multi-Faith, and a driver to include and improve the wellbeing for all by the inclusion of this when discussing personal safety. For the last two years I have held the Airbus UK Diversity Champion Award following an Airbus UK workforce vote.
Whilst working in Industry I was an Armed Forces Royal Navy Reservist for 13 years, with a specialisation in Mine Warfare and Merchant Ship Protection that saw me operationally deployed with the Royal Marines Fleet Protection Group.
My voluntary work includes assisting charities, charity trustees, refugee groups in many ways, and for the last 20 years I have been part of the RNLI at New Brighton Lifeboat Station, as a member of the crew, mechanic and now Launch Authority.
I am licenced in pastoral ministry and assist my parish church as a pastoral worker.
I am married with two fast growing and beautiful girls who are starting to make their mark on the world. My wife, Morag, works as Clinical Lead in Paediatric Physiotherapy at Arrowe Park Hospital.
Life experience has taught me the values of listening, being inclusive and embracing diversity while being collectively focused and improving everything we do as a society.
