When you attend Harmony Suite (Induction Suite) one birth partner is welcome to attend with you during the day. As there are shared spaces within the Induction Suite your birth partner unfortunately will not be able to stay overnight, when other women are in the Induction Suite.
If the induction method has been removed and you are waiting for the next part of the IOL process (step 2), you may be transferred to the maternity ward; most rooms are individual rooms, so if you wish your birth partner can stay.
As induction of labour can take time. We welcome you to bring in items that will make you feel comfortable such as pillows, blankets, aromatherapy, books, IT devices, battery operated candles (no flames). We recommend overnight that you try to rest and sleep – sleeping and eating properly prior to labour happening will help you to cope and help your birth partner to be in the best position to support you. You may wish to consider whether your partner may get better quality of sleep at home in their own bed, whilst awaiting labour. Please discuss this with your midwife to develop an individual plan.
Once labour is established or contractions become more regular, of course your birth partner can be present with you.
