Antenatal classes

We offer an antenatal package of three sessions:

  • Building Connections
  • Labour and Birth Preparation
  • Caring for your Newborn

There is also a ‘My Baby Club’ class with the community Midwifery Support Worker Team covering aspects of practical parenting.

1. Building Connections

This sessions covers: Connecting to baby in utero, the power of oxytocin in pregnancy and labour and the first 1001 days, baby brain development, skin to skin contact and the fourth trimester, partners and our support network, becoming a parent, support in the community.

2. Labour and Birth Preparation

This sessions covers: Place of birth, preparation for birth, practical preparation such as managing latent phase, signs of labour, pain relief options, induction of labour, Caesarean section and brief overview of postnatal and newborn care.

3. Caring for your Newborn

This sessions covers: Responsive parenting and how to respond to your baby, safer sleep and ICON.

Feeding topics including: Recognising and responding to feeding cues, hand expression (antenatal and postnatal), importance of skin to skin contact, breastfeeding your baby (what is normal?), alternative feeding methods, support available, expectations around sleep.
