Jade Millar-Warke is a newly qualified midwife. During sixth form college she already knew she was interested in midwifery, but was told she would need experience in healthcare, so she decided to apply for a position as an apprentice clinical support worker at WUTH. “I did it to help me get into midwifery, but I got so much more out of working in the role”, she said. “It reaffirmed my desire to become a midwife, but also gave me a fantastic grounding in working in healthcare.”
When a CSW job came up on the Maternity Unit at Arrowe Park, Jade jumped at the chance. Then after three years, she applied to do a degree in midwifery at the University of Chester.
“Whilst I was studying I was able to do some part-time work on NHSP as bank staff, which helped enormously with my finances.”
“WUTH has given me so many opportunities”, she added. “I have worked in lots of different teams in different roles. It has made me fully realise the importance of the Trust values, especially teamwork and giving the best care to our community. To me it’s not just a job. Working at WUTH has been a huge part of my life. After being an 18-year-old apprentice, I am now a 26 year-old qualified midwife. I couldn’t be prouder.”
