Community Midwives Lauren Rigby and Alyssa Stewart have worked together in the Seaview Continuity of Care Midwifery Team in Wallasey for two years. They look after women throughout their pregnancy, seeing them in clinic or visiting them at home, depending on their needs.
"Being a midwife is challenging but really rewarding", said Lauren. "The Continuity of Care model allows us to build a closer relationship with the women we are supporting. That's good for them because it allows us to build trust which in turn means they are more likely to share any worries with us. We can then help them, sometimes by just listening, and sometimes by referring them on, for example to the mental health midwives or talking therapy groups."
Alyssa added, "Now that we are both expecting babies of our own, we can empathise even more with any anxieties our pregnant mums may have. As service users too, we both feel really well looked after by the team."
