Wirral’s First Christmas Baby Born at Home
In a heartwarming start to Christmas Day, Wirral’s first baby was born at home in Heswall at 8.14am.
Proud mum, Georgi Avery, welcomed her baby boy, Sage, into the world with the help of the dedicated Wirral University Teaching Hospital’s midwifery team. He weighed a healthy 7lb 15oz.
Georgi, 31, who wanted a natural home birth, said: “He was due on the 30th. It’s my first child, so I didn’t expect him to come early. It was the perfect birth though. The midwife arrived at 4am, and he was born about four hours later.
“It’s been the best Christmas present ever.”
Dad, Liam, added: “He’s a very happy baby.”
“It’s helped having my parents come to stay over Christmas,” said Georgi. “When I gave birth, they went to hide upstairs, but then they got to see their grandson about a minute after he was born.”
Carly Nulty, a midwife from the Highfield Team, who assisted with the birth, said: “It was an honour to be part of such a special moment. Welcoming a new life into the world is always a privilege, but doing so on Christmas Day made it even more memorable.”
The parents didn’t want Sage to miss out by being born on Christmas and are considering giving him a July birthday too.
Nevertheless, this special delivery added to the family festive cheer this year.
