WUTH Marks World Cancer Day on 4 Feb

Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) marked World Cancer Day 2025 on 4th February, highlighting the vital work of its Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service (MCISS).

This year’s global theme, United by Unique, emphasises the importance of personalised, people-centred care—an approach central to WUTH’s commitment to supporting cancer patients and their families.

As part of the event, WUTH hosted a World Cancer Day awareness stall in the foyer of Arrowe Park Hospital, providing staff, patients, and visitors with valuable information on cancer risks, prevention, and early detection. The stall also showcased the range of services available through the Trust’s Macmillan team, from benefits advice and grant applications to emotional and workplace support.

The MCISS team plays a crucial role in ensuring that no one in the community faces cancer alone. In 2024, they supported over 1,000 individuals, offering guidance tailored to each person’s needs.

“Cancer is more than just a diagnosis; it’s a deeply personal experience,” said Anne Torkington, Macmillan Information Manager at WUTH. “Our role is to provide compassionate, practical, and emotional support to help people navigate their journey in the best way possible.”

The MCISS team is based on the ground floor of Arrowe Park Hospital and is available Monday to Friday to offer advice and support. For further details, call 0151 552 1860 or email wih-tr.macmillansupport@nhs.net.
