Endoscopy Unit Retains Prestigious National Accreditation

Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) has been re-awarded a nationally recognised mark of excellence in gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy services, reinforcing its dedication to the highest standards of patient care.

WUTH’s Endoscopy Unit at Arrowe Park Hospital retained its Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG) accreditation which defines a high-quality, safe and appropriate endoscopy service, delivered by a highly-trained, highly-supported and highly-motivated care teams. The team at WUTH performs over 17,000 procedures each year, providing a service to the population of Wirral and the surrounding areas.

Retention of JAG accreditation confirms that the Endoscopy Unit continues to meet rigorous national standards. The assessment provides independent assurance that patients are receiving high-quality, effective and compassionate care, while staff are supported in delivering services to the highest professional standards.

As part of the accreditation process, the JAG assessment team spent a full day within the unit reviewing clinical practice, nursing care, training, operational performance, waiting times and the overall patient journey. The visit included interviews with staff from across clinical, administrative and management teams, as well as patients, and a detailed walk-around of the unit.

The Trust received excellent feedback from the assessors, reflecting the professionalism demonstrated across the Endoscopy Unit.

David Ramanaden, Endoscopy Lead and Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Physician said:
“Retaining JAG accreditation is an important achievement for the whole team. It reflects the high standards we set for ourselves and our shared commitment to providing the very best care for our patients. I am incredibly proud of the teamwork that goes on in the unit every day.”

Janelle Holmes, Chief Executive added:
“This accreditation is a strong endorsement of the quality, compassion and professionalism shown by our Endoscopy team. It demonstrates our focus on patient experience, safety and continuous improvement, and I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication.”
