Gastro Dietitians
Welcome to the gastro dietitian’s team at Wirral University Hospital (WUTH). Our team of registered dietitians specialises in providing dietetic care for patients with diseases of the liver, pancreas and the gastrointestinal tract. This specialism has a large component of chronic disease which often requires long term review and monitoring.
We provide medical nutrition therapy for patients with various conditions such as:
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Coeliac disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Liver disease
- Pancreatic disease
Inpatients:
Provision of dietetic care for patients acutely unwell within the gastroenterology ward at Arrowe Park Hospital. We provide tailored nutritional care plans for specialist dietary therapies, modified and liquid only diets, and enteral nutrition via nasogastric (NG), nasojejunal (NJ) and gastrostomies. We can recommend appropriate nutritional supplements to help meet patients' nutrient needs, especially in cases where patients may have difficulty absorbing nutrients from their food or have increased nutritional requirements.
Outpatient:
We provide dietetic care on a one-on-one basis face to face and via telephone, to help patients manage their conditions and improve their overall quality of life.
Education:
Our team provides education classes at Clatterbridge Physiotherapy Outpatients for patients newly diagnosed with coeliac disease.
Our team works closely with other healthcare professionals, including gastroenterologists and specialist nurses, to provide comprehensive care for our patients. Our goal is to help patients improve their symptoms, optimise their nutritional status, and ultimately improve their overall health and well-being.
