General Gynaecology

The Women’s department is based in the Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital building on the Arrowe Park Site where it provides full outpatient and inpatient services. The unit was completely refurbished in 2011 and it contains its own theatre suite complex, inpatient wards, day case unit and gynaecology outpatient treatment centre.

The Gynaecology service is able to provide a wide range of services including gynaecological cancer, colposcopy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, fertility, hysteroscopy, general and emergency gynaecology.

The Gynaecology department is a longstanding specialist centre for endometriosis, with accreditation from the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). We accept local, regional and national referrals to be treated within our specialist team and are also the only regional training centre for postgraduate doctors specialising in advanced gynaecological laparoscopy. Gynaecology theatres provide 3D imaging on BBraun stacker systems and we are one of the few departments nationally offering robotic surgery for complex cases.

Appointments

Patients with gynaecological problems are referred by their GP who will send a referral letter to Wirral Women and Children's Hospital or give you a reference number which will enable you to access the NHS e-Referral Service.

Each referral will have an initial review by one of our clinicians to direct your referral to the most appropriate pathway.  This may include ordering some tests to be done before an appointment, giving you and your GP some initial advice to manage your symptoms quickly or even direct you to an alternative specialty.  Our aim is to keep you informed at every stage.
