Staying Active in Hospital

Staying Active in Hospital

Movement helps your body recover. Being in bed for long periods can lead to muscle loss, stiffness, confusion and a longer hospital stay. Even small movements, done safely, can make a big difference.
Everyone’s abilities are different. Our team will help you move in a way that is safe and right for you.

Why Staying Active Matters

Research shows that long periods of bedrest can cause:
  • Reduced muscle strength
  • Slower recovery
  • Increased risk of falls, pressure ulcers and constipation
  • Low mood, poor appetite or disturbed sleep
Keeping as active as you safely can helps your:
  • Strength and balance
  • Digestion
  • Breathing
  • Confidence and independence
  • Ability to go home sooner
