Generic Instructor Course (GIC)
GIC prepares healthcare professionals to become instructors on resuscitation courses, with a focus on adult learning principles and effective teaching techniques. To develop confident and competent instructors who can deliver high-quality resuscitation training and support effective team learning.
Course Structure
- Pre-course e-learning and preparation
- 2-day face-to-face course
- Includes lectures, demonstrations, and practical teaching sessions
Who It’s For
- Healthcare professionals who have been identified as having Instructor Potential (IP). Not open to direct application
- Candidates must be nominated from one of the following courses:
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS)
- Newborn Life Support (NLS)
- European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS)
Learning Outcomes
- Understand principles of adult learning
- Deliver structured and effective teaching sessions
- Facilitate learning through skills teaching and simulation
- Provide constructive feedback and assess learners effectively
Assessment & Certification
- Continuous assessment with structured feedback
- Successful candidates become Instructor Candidates (ICs)
- Must teach on two provider courses within two years to achieve full instructor status
