Molecular

Molecular tests (PCR) may be performed on a variety of samples:

  • Blood should be collected into two 4ml EDTA blood tubes (lilac or purple cap)
  • Faeces in the standard faeces container.
  • Sputum in standard container (sputum pot).
  • For swabs, tissues, scrapes and and small volumes of body fluids use the viral tranport tube.  A white-cap universal may be used for biopsy and 10 - 20 ml of pus, exudate or urine.
  • There are also containers associated with special purpose collection kits.
