Outstanding Outcomes In WUTHs Maternity Services
Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) has achieved significant milestones in its commitment to safe and high-quality maternity services.
A new report highlights the positive outcomes of the Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS) and the progress made by WUTH’s maternity services at Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital.
The MIS, established by NHS Resolution, incentivises NHS Trusts to actively adopt best practice and implement essential safety measures in maternity care. WUTH has successfully implemented a set of core safety actions, demonstrating its commitment to improving the quality of care for women, families, and newborns. Year 5 of the MIS at WUTH has yielded excellent results, with all ten actions being met, contributing to safer maternity services.
The MIS Collaborative Advisory Group (CAG), which includes key stakeholders such as NHS Resolution, the Department of Health and Social Care, and professional bodies, has played a crucial role in refining safety actions and ensuring their effective implementation.
WUTH’s key achievements encompass providing continuous care to expectant mothers through a dedicated midwife or team, ensuring consistent support during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period. This personalised approach significantly enhances the patient experience. Additionally, the Trust has successfully implemented the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle, a pivotal safety initiative.
This is further recognition of the high quality of care provided by the Trust’s maternity services. Following a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, WUTH’s maternity services were rated as ‘Good’ with areas of ‘Outstanding’ practice.
