The Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care department is on the 1st floor of Arrowe Park Hospital and on the ground floor of Clatterbridge Hospital.
Chapels on both sites are clearly signed. The chapels in BOTH hospitals are open 24hrs a day for private prayer and a quiet space for your own thoughts.
Chaplains are available 24 hours a day (but only for emergency calls outside of normal office hours). The hospital switchboards hold details of chaplains who are on call and will contact a chaplain in the case of an emergency. Religious and spiritual care is offered to anyone who wishes to receive it. Chaplaincy support is available for patients of all faiths and those of none.
Multi faith provision
The chaplains are experienced in working with people of many different faiths and have contacts with the leaders of different faith traditions. If you would like to see a representative of a particular faith while you are in hospital, please contact the chaplaincy office, (or ask a member of your ward staff to contact the chaplaincy department) who will seek to make arrangements for you (for Arrowe Park on ext 2275, Clatterbridge ext 4012).
Chaplains are also able to provide religious texts and other items necessary for devotions.
Ward visiting
The chaplains regularly visit wards throughout the hospitals. Patients can request a visit from a chaplain by asking ward staff or family/friends to contact the chaplaincy team on their behalf.
Spiritual support
Spirituality, at its most fundamental is about meaning, hope and purpose. Each of us needs to have these in our lives, and during times of ill health, these can be brought into sharp focus. We can begin to ask ourselves deep questions about them. The chaplaincy team can speak with you whilst you discuss and reflect on these issues. Many of the patients who seek chaplaincy support would not identify as religious and simply seek a listening ear or emotional support during their time in hospital. The Trust Lead Chaplain is Rev. Malcolm Cowan.
